For the Love of Acqueducts

One of the most fascinating and awe-inspiring sights in Rome are its ancient aqueducts.

These giants which sprout from miles of bare field have inspired painters Italian and foreign alike for centuries.

Here are just a couple that I've painted over the summer as a part of the 120 Day Project.

I just loved painting this one, it was an especially moody day for summer with those clouds hanging over the distant mountains. The slivers of light shining through the arches of the aqueduct really set the painting off.

This is an exciting and unique place- it's an alley created by 2 parallel ancient Roman aqueducts. Even though cars love to whizz through here, it's not a place to be taken for granted.

Both are lovely although I prefer the bottom one.

Hi Sue and thanks for your comments. I personally like the 2nd one better too, maybe for the light or the palette.
Now that it's winter the whole palette has changed again.
